JUNE 21, 2018 - CHICO, CA: The Chico Heat announced today that they would be donating proceeds from their annual Paint the Park Pink jersey sales to one of their very own.
A single mother, that also hosts a Chico Heat player each year, was recently diagnosed with Invasive Ductual Carcinoma. It was caught early, stage 1, detected with her annual mammogram.
The specialty jerseys were created by local jersey designer Jordan Brandt of Dialed In Athletics and was commissioned by Chico Breast Care Center. The game worn jerseys made specifically for the evening were auctioned to the fans during the game and winners were awarded their jerseys and a photo op with the players after the game ended.
"It just made sense, knowing that one of our host mom's was going through cancer treatments, I asked Chico Breast Care Center if they minded giving the proceeds to someone in the Heat family and they agreed it was a great idea" said Heat GM Hunter Hampton.
Proceeds from fans totaled $1500 and the Heat organization donated another $500 to bring the total donation to $2,000. The Chico Heat have also set-up a Go Fund Me page in efforts to bring the total to $10,000. To make a small donation please click HERE.
Laura posted on her Facebook page, "Today I was the recipient of not only “my kid”, Reid McLaughlin’s Paint The Park Pink jersey with his message of encouragement, but I was also a recipient of the Heat’s fundraising effort. To say I’m a little overwhelmed is an understatement."
