Heat Clinch Number Two Seed, Home Field Advantage for 1st Round of GWL Postseason

With only one game remaining in regular season play, the Heat have roared back from the three-spot in GWL standings to claim the number two seed and home field advantage throughout the first round of playoffs. The win marks the Heat’s thirty-seventh regular season victory as the squad improved their win percentage to .595.

Mikey Wright toed the rubber at the Nett while 1,665 fans clung to their seats anxiously awaiting Heat history. Wright fanned seven while allowing three walks and one run on five hits in his five innings pitched. Sam Gamboa earned the save as he fanned three while allowing one walk and no runs on three hits as he pitched the contest’s latter four innings.

Chico saw RBIs from Carson McCusker and Gavin Johns in the second and third innings, respectively. With the Heat toting a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth, Cole Lemmel stepped up to the plate and delivered an RBI single to add some insurance. One Chico batsmen later, Marcus Wilhite blasted a two-run home run over the right field wall to offer the Heat a 5-1 lead, which would hold for the rest of the evening and secure the team’s monumental win.

As the second seed, the Heat will face the third-ranked Lincoln Potters in a best-of-three series. The series will launch on Monday night in Lincoln before the final two games of the series are played in Chico.

But before the postseason begins, the Heat still have business to finish with the Gold Sox as the two teams meet Saturday to close out the three-game series along with the regular season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday at the Nett.
