Heat add University of New Mexico Lobo Infielder to 2017 Roster
Chico, CA: The Chico Heat have announced the addition of New Mexico Lobo infielder Chris Smutny to the 2017 summer roster. Smutny, from Fresno, CA is in his first year with the Lobos after two transferring from Santa Barbara Community College.
SOPHOMORE (2016 at Santa Barbara CC): Hit .310 with a home run, 10 doubles and 23 RBI at SBCC … Also had five stolen bases and finished the season with a .380 on-base percentage … Hit his first collegiate home run March 31 against Moorpark … Had his first collegiate four-hit game against Allan Hancock on April 28, going 4-for-5 with a double, RBI and three runs.
FRESHMAN (2015 at Columbia): Hit .158 in 19 at-bats (13 games, one start) at Columbia.
PERSONAL: Born Feb. 27, 1996 to Jeff and Debi Smutny … Was a three-year letter winner at Bullard High School in Fresno, California … Hit .325 as a senior to claim All-CMAC First Team honors after hitting .325 … Was All-CMAC honorable mention as a junior after hitting .319 and stealing 10 bases … Hit .302 as a sophomore and helped Bullard win the California Central Section D1 title … Grandfather played baseball at Fresno City College and played briefly in the Mets organization.
